One-on-one battle to watch – Andy Carroll vs West Brom’s central defenders

‘Gareth Southgate will check out West Ham’s Andy Carroll on Saturday as England boss prepares to name squad for Germany and Lithuania matches,’ read the MailOnline’s headline on Thursday morning.

Two months ago that would have made us raise our eyebrows higher than a Carlo Ancelotti tribute act, but now it seems perfectly logical. Daniel Sturridge isn’t playing, Jamie Vardy isn’t scoring, Wayne Rooney is no longer a striker and Danny Welbeck must be left alone to gain strength after injury. If it’s a good time to be called Harry Kane, it’s also a good time to be an Andy Carroll back from injury and scoring goals.

Carroll’s continuous fight against his body’s weaknesses set the bar low, but it is still extraordinary to think that the striker has scored 9% of his career Premier League goals in the last four matches. It also demonstrates that, should he stay fit, he will always be a consideration for international call-up. No other England striker offers quite the same as handy Andy.

Take what? You have absolutely nothing to give. Well apart from constantly ruining thread after thread, and with that in mind I shall bid you good day, you frog loving freak.

Re: Andy Carroll
Apparently Southgate will be there tomorrow, so that'll mean Carroll won't be fit.

Once again you inability to think for yourself and instead just repeat back almost verbatim what someone else has said is truly pathetic.

Please don't reply, this was a decent thread until you decided to show your rancid gauloises smoking head and ruin yet another.

Hi 1307

Both Bilic and AC himself have said recently that they feel a lot of his long term issues have been because he hasn't very often not trained with the full squad, more often training on his own, in the gym, taking it easy because he was too worried about causing further damage. They are also facts, but feel free to chose the ones that suit your opinion.

Have a good Friday.

Re: Andy Carroll
When was he wrapped in cotton wool?

He gets fit, starts games, and breaks down badly after not long. That's not opinion, that is the last 4 seasons. Every time.

Thing is with FACTS, Trev, you can't dispute them. Although you'll have a good go.

Re: Andy Carroll
I'd want to know from the medical staff what it is.
If its just a bit of soreness he should play through it and then have two weeks to fully recover before the next match.
If he has a slight strain and the doctors think he could aggravate it and turn it into a serious strain then leave him out and get him right for the next match.

If he doesn't play I'd like to see Fletcher come in as a straight swap.
We have to work out what we are doing with him next season and whether he can be a proper deputy for Carroll which given Andy's injury record is a key need for us

Re: Andy Carroll
If they patched him up against Boro they can patch him up for tomo. Long rest after tomorrow so get him out there in the form he is in.

Anything more then a slight niggle then guess we wont see him till October

Re: Andy Carroll
and that is the precise thing that bilic says has counted against andy in the past. you wrap him in cotton wool and treat him with kid gloves he believes hasnt worked in the past. its a bit like coming back from an injury and mincing out of tackles, sooner or later you are going to come off a lot worse and its better just to get stuck in and test out your recovery.

im inclined to go with the opinion of the manager who has got the best out of AC since he's been at the club, if thats ok mate ;-)

I'm not suggesting constant rest, and I agree he needs to train properly, but I'd be managing very carefully the number of minutes he plays and how frequently. I think it was his 2nd week back from the previous injury in December and Slav played him nearly a full 90 in each of 3 matches in 7 days. Granted, he did not injure himself then, but that type of stress is cumulative. Given his injury record, I'll be very surprised if he can just play through the groin problem. Slav also hasn't been able to keep him healthy for even half a season, so difficult to say what works best for Carroll.

He'll be busy in May and June on family holidays. Got to be in top shape for then.

Bilic also mentioned in his pressers today the benefits of AC training properly and regularly, he's said in the past that constant resting going easy in training doesn't always help and that Andy seems to respond better if he pushes himself like everyone else.

Re: Andy Carroll
Trev... Tight groin?? Loads of players played for months with a niggly groin ... I had one for about 3 months and just played on through till the end of the season and then rested it... groin tears I'll give you that they are a fucker... had one and it was almost impossible to clear up ... but niggly groins?? MAN THE FUCK UP

Absolutely correct. he has much less of a chance breaking down coming off the bench as he will be playing far fewer minutes which is less wear and tear and better recovery between matches. Given his lack of full fitness over the last 3-4 years, he probably needs at least half of a season coming off of the bench to build match fitness (if not indefinitely). I remember reading something from Bilic end of december stating he felt like Andy's injury problems were due to him not getting enough minutes after recvoery which makes absolutely no sense, but it's little surprise, they are allowing him to "play through" a "minor groin problem." Until he recovers and rehabs it, playing on it is only going to aggravate the problem.
